Let’s start with “Sentimento”!

After ten months of work, we are finally ready to start the musical adventure of Officina Filarmonica.

The musicians of Officina Filarmonica

We knew that the idea of forming an amateur orchestra was ambitious, especially in a city like Rome, which is not very receptive to classical music. However, we did not imagine the difficulties we would encounter in finding amateurs who, like us, shared a passion for music.

We came up against a culture that believes music is for the chosen few, for professionals only. A culture that equates the concept of an amateur with that of an amateurish person. The culture of those who want to maintain classical music as an elitist stronghold.

We also had to deal with the lack of trust and collaborative spirit among many amateurs who, caught up in their professional commitments, no longer believe in the possibility of getting involved and playing music again.

Nevertheless, we have formed a small group of musicians who, although still far from a symphony orchestra, will be the starting point of Officina Filarmonica’s musical project. We extend our thanks to all the musicians who have joined us: for their enthusiasm, passion, and desire to make music together.

From this moment on, the possibility of applying to join the orchestra for available roles will always remain open. To play with us, all that is required is to fill out the application form and submit a brief audition video.

The first concert

To inaugurate our activities, we are preparing Sentimento Barocco, a concert dedicated to baroque music, which will take place on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 5:00 PM, at the Basilica dei Santi Bonifacio e Alessio in Rome.

The concert will be conducted by Maestro Rocco Sbardella, with the following program:

  • Antonio Vivaldi, “Il Giustino,” Sinfonia in C major – RV717
  • Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Divertimento for 3 basset horns, No. 1 – K229/439b
  • Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach, Trio Sonata in D minor – H569, Wq 145
  • Georg Friedrich Händel, Water Music, Suite No. 2 in D major – HWV349

We are truly excited to begin this adventure, and we hope that it can progressively grow with the involvement and support of an ever-increasing number of musicians.
