Classical Music for Passion

The Officina Filarmonica Orchestra is an amateur ensemble of 10-15 musicians (strings, winds and percussion) that performs in concerts, lecture-concerts and events, with the aim of bringing people closer to classical music. The Orchestra is based in Rome and rehearses every Tuesday evening at the Headquarters of the Italian Army Band.

If you play an instrument and share our goals, come to a rehearsal, with no commitment.

The Orchestra at a glance

• When: every Tuesday evening, from 8:00 pm to 10:30 pm.
• Where: Rome – Headquarters of the Italian Army Band, Città Militare della Cecchignola.
• Instruments: at the moment we are mainly looking for strings (violins, violas, cellos, double basses), as well as an oboe, a bassoon and a horn. If you play another instrument, feel free to write to us anyway: we will keep your request on file for the future.

How to get to the rehearsal venue

We rehearse at the Italian Army Band Headquarters (Cecchignola District), which has plenty of free reserved parking for cars, motorcycles and scooters.

For those travelling by public transport, the venue can be reached via Metro Line B:

The Amateur Orchestra

The Orchestra’s activity runs throughout the season, from September to June, and is marked by recurring events: the Christmas Concert, the “Passione Classica” Festival in May, and the final Concert in June. Over the years the Orchestra has played in Rome, in prestigious venues such as the Church of Sant’Alessio all’Aventino, the Church and Cloister of Santa Maria in Via at Largo Chigi, Palazzo Taverna, Palazzo Colonna, and the Auditorium of the Army Band. The Orchestra is conducted by Maestro Rocco Sbardella, clarinetist and conductor with long experience in teaching and performing.

Our Orchestra, Our People

The Orchestra is looking for musicians who love classical music and have a background in studying their instrument or some orchestral experience. Levels are not all the same and you don’t need to be a virtuoso, but the Conductor and the Artistic Direction care about quality: programs are chosen with care and the goal is to make good music.

In a small group, every voice makes a difference. For this reason, care for people comes first: the atmosphere is relaxed, respectful and friendly, and when something isn’t working, we work on it together.

The Orchestra offers and asks for commitment: studying your own part and attending rehearsals and concerts for the program in preparation.

How to join

Drop us a line and come to a rehearsal, with no commitment. We get to know each other and decide together whether and how to continue. You can join at any point in the season. Those who continue commit to attending rehearsals and concerts for the program the Orchestra is preparing. If you have doubts about your level, write to us and we will talk it over without stress.
