Officina Filarmonica
Officina Filarmonica is a project that was born in 2023 from the idea of a small group of musicians, both professionals and amateurs, to create new opportunities for music and musicians.
At the end of 2024, the Association “Officina Filarmonica – ETS” (a Third Sector Entity) was established, carrying forward the original idea through a dedicated organizational structure.
Classical Music in Italy
Italy is the cradle of the world’s musical culture, yet it is gradually losing the ability to value music, especially orchestral music, and to create spaces and opportunities for those who play and those who listen.
Italy has 70 state Conservatories and more than 25,000 first-year students enrolled in AFAM courses (Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance), yet those who want to play professionally find few real opportunities. There is also a lack of venues and facilities for the large community of non-professional musicians who would like to nurture their passion.
Classical music is becoming a privilege for the few. National policies of disinvestment in education and culture bear part of the responsibility. So do our musical institutions, which are at times too elitist and fail to attract a young audience that is increasingly less “equipped” to listen.
Our Goals
Officina Filarmonica is a Third Sector Entity whose goal is to bring music closer to people: to take it beyond theaters and concert halls too, because music belongs to everyone and is for everyone.
To this end, we have founded a new Amateur Orchestra, based in Rome, open to anyone who wants to play for the sheer pleasure and love of it. The Orchestra is non-profit and is aimed at those who do not make orchestral playing their profession:
- amateurs who play for their own pleasure;
- conservatory students and graduates looking for more opportunities to practice;
- music teachers who do not usually play in orchestras.
Professional musicians are also welcome, if they wish to take part in this experience of ensemble playing purely for enjoyment.
The orchestra is conducted by Maestro Rocco Sbardella, a clarinetist and conductor with rich and lively experience as a performer and teacher.
Through the Orchestra, Officina Filarmonica is committed to bringing music to the community by organizing concerts, listening introductions and musical events.
