Officina Filarmonica

Officina Filarmonica is an Association (Third Sector Entity), born from the idea of a small group of professionals and amateur musicians willing to create new opportunities for music and musicians.

Classical Music in Italy

Italy, the cradle of world musical culture, is gradually losing the ability to adequately value music – especially orchestral music – and to create spaces and opportunities for performing ensembles and their audiences.

Despite the 54 state music conservatories and over 9.000 students enrolled in the first year of AFAM courses (Higher Education in Art, Music and Dance), there is a lack of real opportunities for those who wish to play professionally and as well as inadequate spaces and opportunities for that large community of non-professional musicians, who would love to foster their passion and play at a good level.

Classical music fruition is becoming a privilege due to the national policies of disinvestment in education and culture combine a growing elitist attitude of our musical institutions, unable to be appealing to young audiences.

Our Goals

Officina Filarmonica, a “factory” for those who are passionate about music, aims to free music, moving it out of theaters and concert halls returning it to the people. As the famous cellist Mario Brunello often says: “Music belongs to everyone, music is for everyone”.

To achieve this goal, Officina Filarmonica is setting up a new Amateur Orchestra, based in Rome, open to musicians who wish to play just for pleasure and passion.

The Orchestra’s activity is not for profit and is intended for musicians who have not chosen orchestral practice as a profession:

  • amateurs who play for their own pleasure;
  • Conservatory undergraduates and graduates, seeking further practice opportunities;
  • music teachers who do not usually play in orchestras.

Professional musicians who, for their pleasure, want to participate in this ensemble music experience are also welcome.

The orchestra will be conducted by M° Rocco Sbardella, clarinetist and conductor with a rich and lively instrumental and pedagogic experience.

The Orchestra is a no-profit project. Through the Orchestra, Officina Filarmonica is committed to bring music to the local area of Rome, organizing concerts, listening introductions, masterclasses for conductors and musicians.
