Mozart and the Singing Flute

Lecture-Concert – May 17, 2026

The second event of the Festival will take place on Sunday, 17 May 2026, at 5:00 PM, with a lecture-concert entitled “Mozart and the Singing Flute”, performed by the Musicians of Officina Filarmonica, under the musical direction of Maestro Rocco Sbardella.

One of the oldest wind instruments, the flute is distinguished by its bright and luminous tone and by the immediacy of its sound, produced directly by the performer’s breath—a quality that makes it naturally close to the human voice.

The lecture-concert is dedicated to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Concerto No. 1 in G major, K313, composed in 1778, one of the most celebrated landmarks in the flute and orchestra repertoire. At a time when the flute was gaining increasing prominence as a solo instrument, this concerto established itself as a model for performers and audiences alike. Mozart succeeds in enhancing the instrument’s natural qualities, highlighting its pure tone and remarkable ability to “sing”, through flowing, elegant, and immediately communicative melodies.

In Mozart’s score, the orchestra accompanies with balance and lightness, supporting the flute in an harmonious dialogue that enhances the simplicity and beauty of the melodic line. The result is music that, while refined, remains accessible and engaging, capable of evoking genuine emotion.

The musical programme of the lecture-concert is as follows:
